Summer Adventures!
It's getting hot up in here!
Hey there, cool kid,
Summer is heating up both literally and figuratively!
For me personally, I love the heat, though the humidity can be a little tough. I got out for an early paddle on Friday and I was pretty gross afterwards (though partially because I was doing some river floating too).
As usual, things have gotten very busy. July is always action packed. Last week, we were in Chicago to visit family and see the Gundam Base Store!
The highlight of our summer is our annual beach trip to Seaside Heights, which is already coming up next week! I’m looking forward to lots of swimming and eating New Jersey delicacies…
My Niece Asked Me to Draw This
Last summer at the beach house, my niece was doing as all teenagers do and taking a selfie in the big mirror in the stairwell. So of course I had to goof and photo bomb to picture. The result was so funny, that recently my niece and sister asked me to draw it in my mini-cartoon style.
Fantastic! I was very excited that she asked me for this so I was happy to do it.

Now that I have stacks of books in my basement, it’s time to bring them out into the world! I’ve got a few shows lined up for the back half of the year! I hope to see you out on the road!
Indie Comics Corner - Fox & Willow by Allison Pang and Aimo
Recently I received my copy of Fox & Willow Volume 4: The Better to See You With and ended up catching up on the series as a whole (there were more pages on their website!). I’ve been following along with this webcomic since my Tapas days, so it was a real joy to be diving back and seeing the story starting it’s epic conclusion.
Each chapter of the tale follows Willow and Gideon, who are bound together by an unknown curse, as they travel across the land. Each adventure is inspired by a different fairy tale, but it’s not obvious which one until you really dive in. For me personally, I love that you have to guess what story is being used for inspiration and how much they play with elements of that story.
Willow and Gideon’s relationship is very layered and difficult, but also very endearing as they both learn to forgive themselves and each other. The story itself has great emotional depth for both our main characters and the side characters they meet along the way. Punches are not pulled, and the endings are rarely happy, much like traditional fairy tales. Willow especially has a beautiful character arc where she has to learn to face the ugly parts of herself, while also learning that she is still worthy of love and happiness.

Parting Note
Been feeling a lot of ways about AI lately as it’s being pushed a bit more at work, but I read some good articles that reminded me to keep fighting the good fight.
In other news, I’ve had a good steady clip of progress on Black Ball coloring, getting a few pages done last week. This is great for me, since I’ve been struggling with coloring lately.
